May at TTL

We are moving into the winter season in Mokhotlong! Here’s what we’ve been up to during the month of May!

TTL’s 15th Birthday

15 years. 2,351 children served. One child at a time. On Friday the 31st, we celebrated our 15th birthday! We celebrated with braii, cake, singing, dancing, and a (non-alcoholic) champagne toast! Leading up to our birthday, you helped us surpass our goal of raising $5,000! The past 15 years have only been made possible through your generous support! We can’t begin to thank you enough! Rea leboha haholo from everyone at TTL!

More photos from the event can be found on our Facebook page!

Nutrition Week

We assisted our partners at FNCO during Nutrition Week in Mokhotlong town. Staff delivered lectures about childhood nutrition and helped to weigh and measure the children in attendance. In total, we assessed 302 children! (See picture below for an idea of what that looks like!) Of these children we enrolled 6 into TTL programs, distributed Vitamin A to 184 children, and helped children register to receive an official birth certificate for 43 children.

Drought

A recent article in the Lesotho Times reported that over 500,000 or roughly one fourth of Lesotho’s population would face food insecurity in the upcoming year. Due to lack of rainfall, harvest yields have been lower across the country. We’ve already seen an increase in cases of malnutrition in Mokhotlong and the harvest season has just begun. We anticipate seeing a steady increase in food insecurity and are preparing our staff and programs to meet this challenge.
